Tolkien Reading Day is held on the 25th of March each year. It has created by the Tolkien Society in 2003 to encourage fans to celebrate and promote the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien by reading favorite passages.
Why 25 March? The 25th of March is the date of the downfall of the Lord of the Rings (Sauron) and the fall of Barad-dûr. (Duh!)
"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet."
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
