Dead Reckoning is Book One of The Threshold — a literary military science fiction tetralogy of duty, complicity, and the cost of survival.
The war is twenty months old. The Federation has lost too many ships and too many worlds. The rebel colonies are not breaking.
Captain Jonas Kade commands the Federation's newest carrier — and a sealed cargo hold the Admiralty refuses to discuss. His orders, when they come, are signed by men with the authority to end the war in a single afternoon. The decision they have placed in his hands is one no commander in two centuries has been asked to make.
Commander Stellan Rowe is in the path of that decision. He fights for the colonies because the Federation went one war too far. He fights for a wife and three children on Velan, who only know that he is far away. He does not yet know that the man crossing the void toward him has been given a weapon his side cannot answer.
Both men were Federation officers once. Both men know the code. You do not abandon your ship. You do not fire on those who cannot fire back.
The code is about to fail.

The Story of a Criminal Genius, a Stolen Masterpiece, and an Enigmatic Friendship

A Smithsonian Best Book of the Year
A true crime tale of unbelievable friendship, loyalty, criminal genius, and a staggeringly audacious plot to steal one of the world’s most valuable paintings—and return it.
On April 14, 1975, Myles Connor, already a known art thief, entered the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in disguise along with a cohort. The pair went directly the Dutch Gallery and proceeded to remove Portrait of Elsbeth van Rijn from its place on the wall. After a brief scuffle with the guards—with Myles deterring his partner from shooting a bystander—the pair was gone, leaving behind no traceable evidence amidst the mayhem.
Who was Myles Connor and what were his motivations? Most thieves are in it for the money, but Myles was far from most thieves. His motive was freedom. The summer before the heist, he was arrested by the FBI when he attempted to sell three highly valuable paintings by Andrew and N.C. Wyeth to an undercover agent. Incredibly, Myles did this while out on bail for possession of yet morestolen art. When he was arrested and placed in the back seat of a state police vehicle, the FBI agent said to him, “We’ve got you now. Let’s see you get out of this one.” Without batting an eye, Connor calmly replied, “Just you watch me.” Get it Here

About the Author - Truscott Jones
After practicing law for 25 years, Truscott Jones left to teach government and world affairs to high school students. Across both careers, he worked in politics: party conventions, presidential campaigns, and as debate partner for a sitting U.S. senator. These endeavors, and a passion for history and the thin margins upon which it turns, inspired the writing of his latest work of alternative history, Return to Dixie. Engaging students in a diverse public school, persuading juries, and swaying voters all require creative storytelling. This new novel taps into those prior experiences.
Growing up in the South, but raised by parents from Boston and Scranton, Jones lived the tension between our great nation’s cultures. As a gay man coming of age in an era before today’s shaky acceptance, intolerance and the constant fight for equality are familiar concepts to him. Return to Dixie is the product of that backdrop, an effort to paint a unique view of our American condition.

About the Author - Sherri L. Dodd
Sherri grew up in southeast Texas. Walking barefoot most days and catching crawdads as they swam the creek beds, she had a love for all things free and natural. Her childhood ran rampant with talk of ghosts, demons, and backcountry folklore. This inspired her first short story for sale about a poisonous flower that shot toxins onto children as they smelled it. Her classmate bought it for all the change in his pocket. It was not long after that her mother packed the two of them up and headed to the central coast of California. She has ping-ponged throughout the area ever since.
Sherri holds a bachelor’s degree in Holistic Theology, and this helps her see the world through a colorful lens, with her writing sometimes showing hints of these teachings. Her publisher categorized her first fiction novel as a paranormal thriller. It was also a murder mystery with generous dashes of magic realism, showing that she loves to merge genres. This Murder, Tea & Crystals Trilogy released book one - Murder Under Redwood Moon - in March 2024; book two - Moonset on Desert Sands - in March 2025; and the final book in the series – Hummingbird Moonrise – released October 2025! All three books became an Amazon #1 Best Seller in the Occult Supernatural genre.

Spotlight on Garden Tools, new poetry from David W. Berner
Today, LitNuts is shining a spotlight on Garden Tools, a new collection of poetry from David W. Berner.
"Designed to appeal to a wide audience of poetry aficionados." ~Midwest Book Review
Garden Tools
Genre: PoetryNew release: October 2025
Hardcover: $32.99
Paperback: $22.95
In this collection of poems, David W. Berner observes the richness in the everyday, the glory of nature, the magnificence in the ordinary, and the mystery that is the human spirit. Through curious eyes, Berner keenly notices the delicate nuances among the seemingly mundane and the abundant mysteries of nature, of the divine, and the beauty of being wholly awake to the magic that is often hiding in shaded corners.
At its heart, Garden Tools reminds us of what it means to be life-aware of the moon at dusk, the eyes of a child, a walk in the woods, the impermanence of our place in the world, and the brevity of life.
