Easter in Literature

Easter and the concepts of resurrection/renewal/redemption are prominent themes in literature. William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury takes place on Easter weekend in 1928. Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy tells the story of a prince who sets out to redeem a past guilt, and features a memorable scene of an Easter service in a village church. Easter Parade by Richard Yates is considered by many to be his best novel, better even than Revolutionary Road. And of course, C.S. Lewis wove in religious symbolism throughout the Chronicles of Narnia. These and many other authors have shown that a good book can help us explore and amplify themes we are contemplating in our own lives--and even help bring about personal renewal.

"Each time we exhale, the world ends; when we inhale, there can be, if we allow it, rebirth and spiritual renewal. It all transpires inside of us. In our consciousness, in our hearts. All the time." ~Tom Robbins
